All three courses at Minchinhampton Golf Club are renowned for their year round immaculate presentation and excellent drainage. The two Championship Courses, The Avening Course and The Cherington Course situated near the village of Avening and The Old Course set upon Minchinhampton Common, combine to produce three outstanding and unique tests of golf. Both championship courses regularly host National Championships and County Events including the Open Championship Regional Qualifying between 2002 - 2007 and 2018 - 2023.The Cherington The Avening The Old Course
If the quality of a course can be determined by its use as a Championship venue, then The Cherington Course passes with flying colours. The newer of the two courses and styled as an inland links, The Cherington is characterised by its vast undulating greens, thick rough and firm, fast fairways. Between 2002 and 2007, The Cherington was proud to host the Open Championship Regional Qualifying and regularly stages other significant events.
A classic parkland layout, designed by Fred Hawtree, the older of the two ‘New’ courses features several lakes, fairways lined with a rich variety of specimen trees, strategic bunkering, and challenging greens. Set atop the rolling Cotswold countryside, the course offers stunning panoramic vistas of the nearby village that lends the course its name, and regularly plays host to National, Regional and County competitions.
As the ‘original’ Minchinhampton Golf Course, laid out over the rolling grassland of Minchinhampton Common, The Old Course presents a unique golfing experience. Natural contours and stunning panoramic views create a special character, embodying the Club’s 125 year history. No bunkers and the occasional stray cow, but a thoroughly challenging layout nonetheless.
